Race Time Predictor
Estimate projected swim times using stroke count, tempo, and advanced race-segment math.
Projection Tool Only
This calculator provides estimated swim times for training and planning purposes only. Results are projections, not guarantees. Actual race performance may vary based on pacing, conditioning, turns, underwater efficiency, technique, and race execution.
Basic Projection
Uses the formula: Projected Time = Stroke Count × Tempo
Advanced Projection
Uses the formula: T = (ST + UT + TT) + (CC × SR)
Formula Breakdown
Basic Projection
Projected Time = Stroke Count × Tempo
This gives a simple estimate based on how many strokes are taken and how much time each stroke takes.
Advanced Projection
T = (ST + UT + TT) + (CC × SR)
- T = Total projected race time
- ST = Start time
- UT = Underwater time
- TT = Total turn time
- CC = Cycle count
- SR = Stroke rate in seconds per cycle
For butterfly and breaststroke, cycle count is often more useful than single-arm stroke count. For freestyle and backstroke, swimmers and coaches may use either depending on how they track races.
